Doubling Down on AmplifyMD: Powering the Future of Hybrid Healthcare

We're excited to announce that we’ve led AmplifyMD's $20M Series B, alongside F-Prime, Greylock, and strategic partner Memorial Hermann Health System. This marks our second time leading an AmplifyMD funding round—we co-led their seed in 2021, and the dramatic evolution of their business since then validates everything we believed about their potential to transform healthcare.

From Rural Access to Universal Healthcare Resourcing Challenges

When we first invested in AmplifyMD four years ago, it was the depths of the pandemic, and we were compelled by their mission to connect rural hospitals with medical specialists to address the critical shortage of specialized care outside major urban centers. It just wasn’t acceptable that outside of major metro areas, families couldn’t get the specialist care they needed without driving hours to their closest larger city. What the team has further discovered since then is that the healthcare resourcing challenge extends far beyond geography. Every health system in America is struggling with limited provider capacity, rising operational costs, and increasing demands to deliver higher-quality care with fewer resources.

With the current strains and shortages, health systems cannot afford to transfer patients, lose revenue, or operate with fragmented virtual care solutions that create more administrative burden than value. AmplifyMD caught our attention initially because they understood this wasn't just about telehealth; it was about reimagining how health systems deploy their clinical resources across any setting.

Consumer-Centric Thinking Applied to Healthcare Operations

Forerunner’s investment thesis has always centered on putting the consumer at the heart of how companies operate, across industries and regardless of whether they're B2C or B2B. In healthcare, the "consumer" is ultimately the patient, but the path to better patient outcomes runs through better provider experiences and more efficient health system operations.

AmplifyMD exemplifies this approach. Their EHR-integrated platform doesn't just enable virtual consultations, it reshapes how health systems think about resource allocation, turning limited provider capacity into systemwide coverage across multiple locations. By automating workflows and intelligently distributing clinical expertise across multiple sites and departments, they're creating better experiences for providers while dramatically improving patient access to specialty care.

Thesis Validation Through Real-World Impact

This Series B investment validates our long-term conviction that healthcare's future lies in platforms that enhance rather than replace existing clinical workflows. When we co-led AmplifyMD's seed round in 2021, we saw the potential for their three-pronged approach: a network of specialists, hardware-agnostic software enabling real-time remote consults, and compliance automation that reduces administrative burden.

Four years later, AmplifyMD's 300+ programs across health systems nationwide prove that our thesis was correct, but the opportunity was even bigger than we recognized. What started as a solution for rural hospitals has evolved into infrastructure that all health systems need, regardless of geography.

CEO Meena Mallipeddi and her team have built something transformative: a platform that turns virtual coverage from a cost center into a sustainable operational advantage. AmplifyMD isn’t just introducing another software layer for health systems to manage; it’s becoming the connective tissue that makes existing resources work harder and smarter. While the business has evolved dramatically since our initial investment, the core vision is unchanged: making essential specialty care accessible whenever and wherever patients need it.

AmplifyMD is now positioned to scale its model across the country, helping health systems deliver consistent, high-quality care while building sustainable coverage models that will drive healthcare's future. We're proud to continue partnering with them on this mission-critical work.
